About Us:

We are a national collaborative of acute and critical care nurse leaders, clinicians, and researchers dedicated to advancing how inpatient nursing is understood, measured, and supported. Our group brings together experts whose work spans bedside practice, academia, health‑system leadership, and national policy development. Together, we share a common mission: to shed light on the full impact of inpatient nursing by creating a palette of rigorously developed patient/family core outcome measures matched to the needs of the patient population served, incorporated into regulatory, accreditation, and credentialing benchmarks.

Nurses provide the majority of care in acute and critical care settings, yet current hospital/healthcare metrics capture only a narrow portion of what nurses do. Nurses’ work includes preventing patient deterioration, teaching families, coordinating complex care, advocating for patient values, and building trusting relationships that make healing possible. The Blueprint calls for a paradigm shift, moving from harm metrics to nurse-sensitive patient outcomes that reflect the presence of high-quality care.

Our collective work addresses this long‑standing gap by defining nine core domains of nursing practice and outlining a comprehensive Blueprint for Acute and Critical Care Nursing Practice that reflects the true value nurses bring to patients, families, and health systems. We are advocating for national measurement standards, supportive practice environments, and policies that enable nurses to deliver the high‑quality, relationship‑based care that defines our profession. Through research, innovation, and collaboration, we are committed to building a future where nursing’s impact on patients, families, and health systems is measured and recognized.
